About the role
As a key support in managing the Engineering portfolio, you will serve as the principal underwriter for Engineering Classes while also assisting in overseeing Property Classes. Your primary responsibility will be the underwriting and management of assigned lines of business, ensuring alignment with the Company’s business plan, and contributing to the growth of Gross Written Premium (GWP) and target underwriting results. Your role is crucial in ensuring the successful execution of the Company’s business plan while maintaining strict adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Your responsibilities
Ensure all underwriting is within the Company’s Underwriting Guidelines and Risk Appetite.
Provide timely quotations, ensuring terms and rates align with guidelines and market standards.
Decide on risk retention and set reinsurance allocation within established guidelines with Risk Engineers for risk surveys and follow up with Business Units/Branches on Risk Improvement Measures (RIMs).
Monitor and review the underwriting profitability of the assigned portfolio.
Oversee the renewal of referral risks, discuss renewal rates/terms with marketing, and develop underwriting strategies to support company objectives.
Conduct manual reviews of policies due for renewal in the system.
Submit the VCLRR to Malaysian Re and the LSR Scheme Manager for clearance and preparation of the PCR report.
Prepare the monthly Analysis of Renewal and New Business Report, along with other treaty reports.
Compile risk details for reinsurance placement and coordinate with the Reinsurance Department.
Assist in the development and implementation of underwriting strategies to support the company's underwriting policies and objectives.
Help document the Underwriting Operation Manual, Underwriting Guidelines, and Underwriting Authority Limit Manual.
Aid in product development and drafting product wordings, brochures, proposal forms, and PDS.
Coordinate with the Treaty Department on special acceptance and with the treaty leader for cessions to be ceded to the treaties.
Take on additional responsibilities and ad hoc projects or assignments as directed by the Superior or Head of Department.
You will have
Diploma or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and/or ACII/AMII qualification.
Experiences
Minimum fifteen (15) years working experience in general insurance industry.
Skills & Competency
Sound underwriting knowledge in Engineering classes of insurance.
Familiar with PIAM’s Revised Fire Tariff and Fire Detariffication is an added advantage.
Good writing and communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills and team player.
Well versed with BNM/PIAM/MNRB guidelines.
